Photo Tip 12 of 50 - Planning a Fashion Style...
When you want to do a fashion style location photoshoot, good planning is essential.
It’s a good idea you find out what products the client wants, how bold s/he is and what s/he wants from the experience.
Make sure you know the locations you want to use and what poses you can use in each. It’s a good idea to have at least three locations, each with a change of clothes to keep it fun...

Photo Tip 11 of 50 - How to Pose People for Full...
The reason why a many people don’t like seeing themselves in photos is that they or the photographer doesn’t know how to pose them to flatter.
Most adopt a square on “mug shot” pose.
If you want to take a flattering full length portrait, try this:
Get the person to stand sideways on to the camera as if you were going to do a profile
Get them to turn their foot nearest...

Children get bored easily and it shows on the photographs. How can you keep them interested.
It’s important to interact with them and treat them as an individual. Don’t talk to them through their parents but talk to them directly. Ask them what things they like about school, their hobbies and the like.
The girl in the accompanying photograph loves gymnastics and was only too happy...

Tip 9 of 50 - Rule of Thirds Composition
The rule of thirds is a compositional technique used by painters for centuries, what is it and how can photographers use it to good effect.
Rule of thirds is a technique to place the subject, or the most important part of the subject approximately either a third of the way up or down or in from the side of the image.
It is used a lot in landscapes or architectural photography, but can also be...

Photo Tip 8 of 50 - Making your subject stand out from the background. http://roybarnes.tumblr.com/post/137985189
I’ve heard wedding venues are strugglin2keep going at mo. Heard of local well2do venue goin bust, leavin couples w/no reception. Comments?
Photo Tip 8 of 50 - Making Your Subject Stand Out
If the background that you have to work with is messy and distracting, by rendering it out of focus you can draw attention to the subject.
Do this by getting the person to stand a distance away from the background, and using a wide aperture on your lens. The wider the aperture (i.e. the smaller the f-stop) the easier it is to throw the background out of focus.
In the example here I used 50mm...
Photo Tip 7 - What to do if subject you want in focus is off centre http://roybarnes.tumblr.com/post/137298623
Photo Tip 7 of 50 - Off Centre Subject in Focus
Sometimes, it’s nice to photograph a person in front of nice scenery and have the person to one side to get more of the landscape. Often, though, the landscape is nice and sharp but the person is blurry.
The reason for this is that the camera has focused on the background, and the person is out of focus.
What are ways around the problem?
Set the mode on your camera to landscape (usually...

Photo Tip 6 of 50 - Sharp Eye
Sounds obvious but … it’s surprising how many people, even professionals, don’t get eyes sharp in their photos. That’s the main way people will say whether a photo is out of focus or not.
Always try to focus on the eyes to make them sharp. If you can’t get both in focus because of a close up in profile, make sure the eye closest to the camera is in focus. If the...
Photo Tip 5 of 50: How to pose people to give them a flattering jawline—> http://roybarnes.tumblr.com/post/135961768
Photo Tip 5 of 50 - Giving People a Flattering...
To photograph a person so they have a flattering jaw line:
Photograph the subject from slightly above eye line
Get them to lean forwards toward the camera
Get them to slightly elevate their chin
Photo Tip 4 of 50 - Fireworks with People
This is quite advanced technique. You’ll need a Digital SLR with flash gun.
The objective is to get nice firework trails and yet still accurately expose the happy couple. Problem is, exposing normally for good fireworks will mean that the couple will come out too dark, and or blurred.
For the shot shown, set the camera on manual for 2 secs at f5, with the flashgun on camera and switched...
Photo Tip 2 of 50 - Zoom in to Flatter
If you stand close to the subject and use the short end of your zoom (i.e. zoom out), you will get distorted features. Stand as far back as you can and zoom in. Then walk towards to person until you get head and shoulders in shot.
Typically, anything less than 35mm focal length will make noses and chins look relatively big, whereas anything more than 70mm will make prominent features look...
